Ein guter Bekannter von mir hat sich das Heft gekauft und mokierte sich schwer über den Schreibstil. Und wenn man mal "Don't Believe The Hype" von Sky Nonhoff gelesen hat, bekommt man da einen recht guten Einblick in das System hinter solchen Listen. Finde das nicht weiter schlimm, das tut ja niemandem weh; aber ein "WOW" - Erlebnis ist derartiges nun wirklich nicht. Aber danke für deine Abtipp - Mühe!

Ich habe wenig gelesen bis auf die 500-Alben-Liste. Wenn er aber das Gendern meint: das fand ich wenig störend.
Und ja, stimmt: Erhellendes gibt es wenig. Mich hatten natürlich eher fehlende Alben gewundert: Kid A zum Beispiel oder das Franz-Ferdinand-Debüt.

Außerdem stört mich, daß von vielen KünstlerInnen mehrere Alben vertreten sind. Ausgewogenheit und Bandbreite gehen anders. Aber zumindest mit Peter Brötzmann eine Überraschung. Die einzige, vermutlich nur, weil er gestorben ist und man Fachkenntnis demonstrieren wollte.
Das Gendern war nicht sein Problem, nur der Stil.
Die Rezensionen und Beschreibungen der einzelnen Alben sind teilweise wirklich unfassbar oberflächlich und inkompetent geschrieben, dass es mitunter echt zum Fremdschämen ist. In der Redaktion sitzen mittlerweile offenbar viele junge Hipsternerds, die von der Materie wenig Ahnung haben oder sich nicht gut ausdrücken können.

Manche Leute sollten sich wirklich mal ein Musikmagazin aus den 70ern in die Hand nehmen und lesen, was da (vor allem wie) steht.
Am Ende bleibt's der piefige RS, die haben nicht den Anspruch die ganze Musikwelt abzudecken, sondern einen sehr stramm und gefestigten Kreis an Leser:innen zu beglücken. Bei einer GROOVE-Liste würde ich auch nicht kritisieren, dass da plötzlich kein American Football auftaucht. Dennoch ist die Liste aber deutlich abwechslungsreicher als sein muffiger Vorgänger und zumindest einen Hauch raus aus den modernden Untiefen des langweiligen Alte-Männer-Kanons. Es geht aufwärts. Aber wie gesagt, ich glaube, das Magazin ist schlicht der falsche Ansprechpartner für eine ausgewogene Liste.

Da reicht schon die "Platten des Monats" - Sammlung vom ME. Die Texte aus den Frühzeiten sind da echt teilweise haarsträubend.

Ich habe das Heft 350 Meter entfernt liegen, aber die Texte wurden, wenn ich mich recht erinnere, von altgedienten Redakteuren verfasst - auf jeden Fall nicht von Hipster-Nerds (die es beim RS vermutlich eh nicht gibt). Es ist natürlich nicht einfach, ein Album in vielleicht 150 Zeichen zu erklären.

Sehe ich auch so. Für den Rolling Stone finde ich die Liste sogar relativ ausgewogen und um musikalische Breite bemüht. Es taucht ja sogar Aphex Twin auf. Die Aufgabenstellung und Überschrift ist halt schon mal grundsätzlich ein Blödsinn, den man nicht ernst nehmen kann. Alleine: Was ist mit dem Rest der Welt?

warum so abwertend? Ich sehe da kein hüben oder drüben. Das erste was ich in Musikzeitschriften lese ist die Reissues-Rubrik, und bei Musik wie in der Mode ist mein persönliches Fazit (bis jetzt jedenfalls): Klassiker kann man nicht verbessern.

Ich gehe mal davon aus, dass das daher rührt, dass bei 135 Menschen, die abgestimmt haben, nicht alle das gleiche Lieblings-Bestes-Album einer Interpret:in haben.
